Expressive Writing Retreat

During this writers retreat, participants will be encouraged to dive deep into creative waters and write outside the box. Opening ourselves to the muse, we will explore different mediums of writing including song writing, creative writing and poetry with the goal of opening a clear channel for creative energy to flow through us. We will write solo, in pairs and as a group after participating in a hike and a 4 hour guided sea-kayak adventure (not all in the same day). Combining musicians, songwriters, prose writers, and poets, with the unparalleled surroundings of Kachemak Bay, we will create a unique retreat experience in a one of a kind setting. There will be opportunities to share our work in a supportive circle and to have some fun around the campfire. You will walk away from this retreat feeling refreshed and able to express yourself in whatever medium you choose.
DETAILS
The retreat will begin on Thursday evening and run through Sunday afternoon. The cost per person is $600 which includes 3 nights lodging, meals, 4 hour guided Kayak journey in the pristine waters of Kachemak Bay, round trip water taxi. The limit is 16 people for this workshop, so reserve your place!
YOU WILL NEED
A sleeping bag, hiking shoes, rain gear (you never know...), toiletries, notebook & pen (no computers please), instrument if you play one (acoustic instruments that travel well and need no power - sorry grand piano players). Bring your voice and an open mind.
YOUR HOSTS
Michelle McAfee is an accomplished singer/songwriter with over 12 years experience in the industry. After being a staff songwriter, she is now recording her first solo album and touring. Her career has taken her from hometown Nederland, CO to Nashville, Los Angeles, Portland and most recently, a cabin on 7 acres in Southern Oregon. She is avid kayaker and hiker and is excited to bring her passion to this retreat.
Melissa Mitchell is a local singer/songwriter and the host of 2nd Saturday’s in Spenard where she brings local musicians, artists, and businesses together to support local non-profits. Melissa’s passion for the healing power of word and song has led her to want to make a difference with her music. Having grown up on the Kenai Penninsula she is excited to host this writers retreat in her neck of the woods. Melissa is currently working with Michelle on several projects and is planning a great summer tour across Alaska with other local artists.
